My petz golden retriever Max doesn't seem to be able to pick a ball like this: With the stretched legs and stuff. He stretches his legs and then makes the pick up movement, but he can't pick up the ball. He can pick it up when the balls is more sideways on, where he doesn't have to strecth his legs like that. I adopted another golden retriever from the games (P3, P4 and P5) and they are all like that. Am I the only one having this problem or is it a golden retriever problem?

The dog in my signature (the white one) has that issue. I have a few dogs that can't pick up the tennis ball like that. They'll make the movement of picking up the ball, but the ball stays at their paws, it just moves a little bit. At some point they pick up the ball, but they don't do it facing that way.
Maybe, considering this is a problem in a few dogs, flyball judges should recognize this?

Do you maybe know what breed the white dog is based on? Could be a breedfile problem or an individual dog problem. Ubisoft golden retrievers all seems to have it. It may be a problem with other dogz of other breedfiles too then. This is the best possible pick up picture for a dog like that. And then they stand up without the ball. I'll go add a little info part about that to the flyball rules.

DiMaggio (the white dog) is based off of the Great Dane, I'm pretty sure. I think it has something to do with the fact that he's hexed. I'm not sure why this happens. He can pick it up fine facing forwards, towards the screen. But if he attempts it facing right, he looks like your Golden. That's an awful picture of him, and he isn't facing right. But that's pretty much what it always looks like on him. After the picture was taken he stood straight and the ball was no longer in his possession. -shrug- Edit: Yep. He's a Great Dane.

Ok, I've added a little part about it to the rules topic, while doing that I also listed some example tasks for judges

Cool. Now maybe DiMaggio can do something. x3 I thought it was just a defect with him, so I wasn't going to enter him in anything ball related. He loves the ball, detests the frisbee.

Max, the golden above, is now 5 years old and I've done many trials with him in those years, but I've never noticed that he can't pick up a ball like that I wanted to enter a flyball trial and saw that he was acting weird. Atleast I'm great to see that it's not only my game doing this, but it's the dog itself and probably some breedfiles causing this.

I didn't notice until I tried to get him to do it facing right or left. He can always pick it up if he's facing toward the screen or away from it, but not sideways. It's a curious issue, but I'm glad it's not just DiMaggio. x3 Maybe more people will enter Flyball trials now, if they're having the same problem. I added a link to the updated rules page on my current trial.

Just want to say, it is a personality Quirk. Some dogs - regardless of breed - do this (I call it fumbling). My Elkhound Keibou does this most of the time, but after hours of attempting, he finally was able to pick it up okay. Some dogs just won't though.

I was just taking pictures for your puppy flyball trial and it seems like Max can pick up balls when he's a pup, really something strange.

Even as an adult, he probably can, the action however is just a rare occurrence for some dogs. As I said, My dog Keibou Can pick up the ball, it just rarely happens and most times he fumbles. Also, Justice occasionally cannot pick up the ball. So it is possible just extremely difficult (depending on how frequent the action occurs for their file) for all dogs to pick up the ball.
It is a weird action >.<

I just have to keep trying then. Been trying for days now, but no success yet. Hopefully I can take a picture in time when he picks it up As a pup he can pick it up always.

I've had the same problem with a lot of different breeds. But they usually pick it up eventually. Haha usually when I don't care if they do or not.
